The function and effect of the ritual are unique for each participant. For example, the same physical symptoms may have different diagnoses in the spirit world, which result in different treatments. Similarly, the same healing ritual may produce different effects in each patient. The function of ceremony is the same for each participant, though experience of the effects may vary.
